It is with great excitement and anticipation that I announce the upcoming publication of my next book, Risking Life and Lens: a Photographic Memoir. It has been accepted by Temple University Press and is slated for release in early 2017.
Risking Life and Lens offers a comprehensive overview of my personal and professional development over the course of my 40-year career as a socially-concerned photographer documenting life in the face of poverty, racism and oppression. My odyssey took me from the mean streets of Manhattan and Newark, New Jersey to the back woods of Maine, the mountains of Guatemala, and beyond as I sought to fulfill a parallel personal journey deep into my own past.
The book features 159 black and white images and six chapters describing the different stages of my life and career. The narrative details the variety of challenges and learning experiences I encountered along the way, as well as my relationships with the many remarkable individuals whose lives touched my own and helped me fulfill my personal quest for truth.
The publication of this book will mark a capstone to my career that I hope offers readers an educational and inspiring portrait of how art can help us understand not only the world, but ourselves.
